William Burroughs: Objects From the Bunker
"William Burroughs: Objects From the Bunker" is a show of photographs by Peter Ross, which opened December 10 at the Common in San Francisco. The show features 14 images (The Advocate has two bonus images) of possessions belonging to the Beat writer William Seward Burroughs, from his still-intact New York City apartment (known as the Bunker). Burroughs lived in the Bunker (the underground locker room of an 1880s YMCA) through the '70s, and after moving to Kansas in 1981 kept the space as his NYC home.
He died in 1997, and the Bunker has remained as he left it.
The exhibition kicks off Showmanship, a special weekend Holiday Market and Pop Up Shop running through December 12 at the Common. Hours are Friday 6-10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
