Move over, Tinky Winky—now Po’s a lesbian

Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports that the actress who plays Po on the internationally popular children’s series Teletubbies has become the subject of controversy in the United Kingdom over her participation in a gay-themed program. British tabloid The Sun writes that Pui Fan Lee, 29, who wears the costume of Po, appears in an explicit lesbian scene on Channel 4’s Metrosexuality, “romping naked with another woman and performing oral sex.” In 1999, conservative Christian spokesman Jerry Falwell attacked Tinky Winky of Teletubbies, saying that the purple, purse-carrying character was gay.
