Toronto critics
honor Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote

Toronto film critics gave their top prize to countryman David Cronenberg, but they also liked Capote, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cronenberg's A History of Violence garnered the Best Picture and Best Director awards from the Toronto Film Critics Association. Capote, an examination of gay author Truman Capote during the writing of In Cold Blood, took three major prizes: Best Actor for Philip Seymour Hoffman, Best Supporting Actress for Catherine Keener, and Best First Feature for director Bennett Miller. Laura Linney was named Best Actress for The Squid and the Whale, which was also awarded for Noah Baumbach's screenplay. Other Toronto prizes include Paul Giamatti, Best Supporting Actor (for Cinderella Man); Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Best Animated Feature; The World, Best Foreign-language Film; and Grizzly Man, Best Documentary.
