Darren Star to
executive-produce Manchild

Gay TV creator Darren Star will executive-produce Showtime's Manchild, about a group of men in their late 40s.

Openly gay TV creator Darren Star (Sex and the City, Melrose Place) has signed on as executive producer of Showtime's Manchild, reports Variety. The show is a remake of a BBC hit that was often called a "male Sex and the City," revolving around the lives of a group of men in their late 40s, dealing with various midlife crises. "I loved the arena of 40-something guys," Star told Variety. "When you're a man in your 40s, in some ways it's the best time of your life. In some cases, your youth may be leaving, but you're still attractive to women because you have money." Showtime has yet to green-light a pilot for the new show, but the hiring of Star and writer Michael Traeger (Dead Man on Campus) indicates that the project is moving forward. (Advocate.com)
