Dreamgirls plays peekaboo at Cannes

Out director-screenwriter Bill Condon gives press sneak preview of film.

International journalists attending the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France were treated to a quick glimpse of out director Bill Condon's new film Dreamgirls on Friday as well as introductions to the glamorous cast, which includes Beyonce Knowles, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Hudson.

Condon, who also wrote the screenplay to the Broadway adaptation, mingled with the press at the Martinez Hotel Ballroom. Condon was joined by producer Laurence Mark, Oscar-winning production designer John Myhre, Oscar-nominated costume designer Sharen Davis, award-winning choreographer Fatima Robinson, and Tony-nominated composer Henry Krieger, who composed the original Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

The journalists were shown 20 minutes of the film before Condon introduced them to Foxx, and then Knowles, Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose, the film's title characters.

The film, set for release in December, follows the rise and fall in the '60s and '70s of a fictional girl group. (The Advocate)
