This fall, out
Spanish director Pedro Almodovar will bring his film
All About My Mother to the stage of the Old Vic
in London. The play will be produced by artistic director
Kevin Spacey and adapted to English by playwright
Samuel Adamson, although Almodovar will have the
final world on the script and casting.
The film gained
international attention when it received the Oscar for
best foreign-language film in 1999. It tells the story of
Manuela, a strong, vibrant single mother who, after
the tragic death of her teenage son, sets out to find
the boy's father, a transvestite junkie named Lola.
Known best for his dark humor, out director Almodovar
touches on a variety of complex subjects such as AIDS,
gender identity, family, and religion.

The [London] Guardian, Lesley Manville,
currently working on BBC's Cranford Chronicles
with Judi Dench, is rumored to be in final
