The story of
foreign medics charged with purposely injecting over
400 Libyan children with HIV is being developed for a
feature film. Sixth Sense Productions, who funded the
2004 drama Hotel Rwanda, purchased the life rights
from the five Bulgarian nurses and Palestinian doctor
charged by the African nation, Reuters reported
Monday.
The medical
workers were sentenced to death but were freed in July after
the European Union stepped in to negotiate with Libya. Their
case was an ongoing eight year dispute. Western
scientists have said that Libya's inefficient
health-care system was the real cause of the rampant HIV
infection. About 50 of the infected children have since
died. Ann Peacock, who wrote the screenplay adaptation
of the fantasy film, The Chronicles of Narnia has
been tapped to write The Benghazi Six. (AP)
