An anonymous L Word fan has donated $1 million to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation in honor of a breast cancer story line that involved a popular character on the lesbian drama.

The gift will be used to establish the Erin Daniels and Leisha Hailey Fund for Breast Cancer. The donor has also pledged to match dollar for dollar every donation made to the fund. The donor is a fan of L Word actresses Erin Daniels, who portrayed a gay breast cancer victim, and Leisha Hailey, who played her lover.

"There are very few times in a woman's life where she feels she's been lucky enough to be part of something that will change lives," Daniels said in a press release. "This is one of those times. I am overwhelmed that my portrayal of Dana's story has inspired such an act of kindness and generosity, and elated to be part of it. I am thankful that so many women will be given hope due to Dr. Love's program."

Said Love, who guest-starred on The L Word during the breast cancer story line: "After I was on the show, the donor visited our website and began to educate herself about the intraductal research we were doing. In our work, she saw the potential for a cure, and she recognized the difference a significant donation could make." (The Advocate)
