An ad for the touring production of Avenue Q was rejected by an agency in
Colorado Springs, Colo., because it would have revealed the furry
cleavage of the Lucy the Slut character. Colorado Springs happens to be
the headquarters of the antigay group Focus on the Family.
According to The Gazette of Colorado Springs, an executive for Lamar Advertising deemed the bus shelter ad too racy for the conservative market.
Lamar account executive Jeff Moore said he has a simple test to see what’s appropriate for bus ads and billboards:
“If I have to explain it to my 4-year-old or my grandmother, we don’t put it up,” said Moore, according to TheGazette.
