James Randi, the stage magician turned skeptic challenger of pseudoscience and the paranormal, says that he is gay.
The 71-year-old Canadian-American came out Sunday on Swift, the blog of the James Randi Educational Foundation.
”Well, here goes. I really resent the term, but I use it because it’s recognized and accepted. I’m gay,” wrote Randi.
He said that while friends and colleagues already knew, he was inspired to come out online after watching Milk last week.
”I’m in excellent company,” wrote Randi. “Barney Frank, Oscar Wilde, Stephen Fry, Ellen DeGeneres, Rachel Maddow, are just a few of those who were in my thoughts as I pressed the key that placed this on Swift and before the whole world.”
