Latino stars including Ricky Martin, Eva Longoria Parker, and George Lopez are voicing their opposition to Arizona’s new immigration law, which gives police officers the right to stop and question anyone they think is in the country illegally.
The legislation, which was signed last Friday, also requires legal immigrants to carry their registration documents at all times. The law has sparked fears among activists that it will lead to unfair racial profiling.
Martin posted the following on his Twitter page: "Equality is understanding that we all come from the same place. Racial profiling should never be tolerated, in the U.S. or anywhere in the world. We're moving backwards. Scary."
Longoria posted Martin’s tweet, plus a statement from President Barack Obama condemning the law, while Lopez wrote, "Arizona. George Lopez is coming... Oops... I just got pulled over... apparently I fit the profile... Gacho!!"
All three have been vocal opponents of the legislation.
