10. THEATRE: What's Wrong with Angry?
The 29th season of Celebration Theatre in L.A. -- its first season under new artistic director John Michael Beck -- kicks off with the September 9 opening of Patrick Wilde's controversial 1992 play, a bittersweet love story about cute British schoolboys. Set during a time when the age of consent for gays was five years older than that for straights, the play was adapted for the 1998 film Get Real. For more info visit CelebrationTheatre.com.
9. TV: Survivor: South Pacific
Survivor's 23rd season, which premieres September 14 on CBS, includes a furry gay competitor among its attractive castaways who might become the reality show's biggest bear icon since Richard Hatch: Hoping to outwit, outplay, and outlast is Mark Anthony Caruso (pictured), a 48-year-old New Yorker and retired NYPD morgue detective who calls himself "Daddy Bear" and describes himself as "funny, sarcastic, and lovable."
8. TV: Gaga by Gaultier
When Lady Gaga sat down with Jean Paul Gaultier at the gay fashion designer's Paris atelier, the two icons discussed Gaga's rise to fame, her fans, her performances, her marketing strategy, her bisexuality, her drug use, and, of course, fashion. Thank "capital H-i-m" that this chat was taped for a French documentary special -- promoted by Gaga and Gaultier in kinky nun and priest drag -- which now airs September 12 on the CW.
7. FILM: Tanner Hall
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara stars in this dreamy coming-of-age drama about troubled girls in a posh New England boarding school. Amy Ferguson is a standout as Lucasta, a tomboy who's struggling with her lack of attraction to the opposite sex. Directed by Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini, the enchanting film, which opens September 9 in limited release, also stars Shawn Pyfrom and Amy Sedaris.
6. TV: America's Next Top Model: All-Stars
For cycle 17 of ANTM, which premieres September 14 on the CW, host Tyra Banks has assembled a cast of fan favorites for the model competition's first all-stars cycle, which welcomes back cycle 11 beauty Isis King (pictured), the show's first and only trans contestant. Also returning is cycle 15's ex-Hooters waitress Kayla Ferell, the show's highest-placing lesbian, as well as homophobic Christian Shannon Stewart from cycle 1.
5. TV: 90210
Though Trevor Donovan (pictured) will no longer be a series regular -- not that he had all that much screen time last season -- he'll still return to play Teddy, 90210's resident gay dude, for a handful of episodes when the fourth season begins September 13 on the CW. Ex-TeenNick star Ryan Rottman will also appear as Shane, a gay 20-something who's confident in his own identity and committed to fighting for marriage equality.
4. TOUR: Lupercalia Tour
In advance of the early 2012 U.S. release of Lupercalia, his love-fueled album of baroque techno-pop featuring buoyant lead single "The City," gay British singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf takes his world tour on an American detour: September 13 and 14 at the Masonic Lodge in L.A., September 15 at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco, and September 17 and 18 at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. For more info visit PatrickWolf.com.
3. TV: Anderson
Like his predecessors Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, will CNN anchor Anderson Cooper discuss his significant other on his daytime talk show? "The less I know about reporters, the better, from my perspective as a viewer," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm not interested in their personal lives. But I understand people are, and, you know, we'll see." We shall see indeed when Anderson debuts September 12 in syndication.
2. TV: Heart of Broadway
Premiering September 9 on here! TV and here! Online, this original special explores and honors the ensemble behind Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a nonprofit HIV/AIDS fund-raising organization that has raised more than $195 million since 1988 through events like the Easter Bonnet Competition and Broadway Bares. Featured celebrities include Denis O'Hare, Jerry Mitchell, and Billy Porter. For more info visit hereTV.com.
1. FILM: We Were Here
Through intimate interviews with five amazing people who lived to tell their tales, filmmakers David Weissman and Bill Weber -- codirectors of The Cockettes, a 2002 documentary about the legendary San Francisco drag troupe -- explore the terrifying early years of the AIDS epidemic and how it ravaged San Francisco in their quietly affecting new doc, which opens September 9 in limited release.
