10. DVD: Dangerous
Bette Davis gets a workout in this 1935 melodrama (now on DVD from Warner Archives) about an alcoholic actress on a downward spiral which won the great film star her first Academy Award for best actress. However, most Davis devotees know it was really a consolation prize for missing out on a nomination the year before for her torrid career-making performance as a slatternly waitress in Of Human Bondage.
9. BOOK: J. Edgar Hoover & Clyde Tolson, Darwin Porter
If you thought last year's film bio J. Edgar was too gingerly a treatment of the personal life of the notorious FBI founder, you'll likely learn more than you ever wanted in this gossipy expose (Blood Moon Productions, $19.95). Prolific author Darwin Porter throws caution to the wind and speculates on every rumor and scandal ever associated with Hoover and his decade-spanning love affair with right-hand man Tolson.
8. MUSIC: "Man Areas," Jonny McGovern
In the follow-up to "Dickmatized," self-proclaimed Gay Pimp McGovern unleashes another raunchy musical ode to his favorite anatomical parts. Check out the twink-filled and possibly NSFW video filmed at New York's naughty watering hole, the Cock, here.
7. BOOK: Luminosity, Mark Henderson
The hefty price tag on Henderson's fourth book (Bruno Gmunder Verlag, $75.42) of erotic photography -- this one focused on nude men bathed in light -- may empty your piggy bank, but it will definitely scorch a hole in your coffee table.
6. DVD: Michael Feinstein American Songbook
On season 2 of his popular PBS series, Feinstein, the "Ambassador of the Great American Songbook," continues his lifelong mission to keep music fans singing along to the lyrics and melodies of songwriters like George and Ira Gershwin and Harold Arlen. This new DVD set ($39.95) includes nearly two hours of bonus material including Feinstein in concert with appearances by Cheyenne Jackson and Christine Ebersole, and archival footage of departed legendary performers such as Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Liberace, and Rosemary Clooney.
5. PERFORMANCE: Chippendales with Jake Pavelka
The Bachelor's appealing Pavelka takes the swaggering sex appeal that also made him a fave on Dancing With the Stars to Sin City, where he'll serve as celebrity host for the fantasy-fulfilling 12-man dance troupe. Thursdays-Sundays through March 18 at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
4. MUSIC: Next, Men
Out musician J.D. Samson's music collective plans to release four EPs. First out is the three-track Next, which includes the titular single, as well as the irresistible "Make Him Pray." Listen to song samples or purchase the album here.
3. BOOK: It Gets Better, Dan Savage and Terry Miller
The advice columnist-turned activist and his husband have compiled a series of expanded essays (Plume paperback, $15) from celebrities and everyday people who have posted videos as part of the landmark campaign to help end antigay bullying and teen suicide. They've also included essays from notable LGBT folks who have not made videos, including writers David Sedaris and Michael Cunningham.
2. TV: She's Living For This
As fans of her raunchy song and video parodies know, nothing is off limits for outrageously talented drag superstar Sherry Vine. With her new here! TV series, the provocateur puts her stamp on the variety shows she was raised on as a child of the '70s. It's more Benny Hill than Carol Burnett, plus you can expect candid interviews with the host's pals like Justin Vivian Bond and even occasional full frontal male nudity from the handsome Sherry Vine Dancers. The 30-minute series premieres tonight and new episodes will air the following five Fridays. Watch a promo here and the series here.
1. TV: the 84th Annual Academy Awards
Sure we'll all complain about how long the telecast runs, but it's worth tuning in just to see legendary Christopher Plummer win best supporting actor for his joyous performance as an elderly gay dad in Beginners. But there's more, including the hot three-way competition between George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Jean Dujardin for best actor. And here's hoping host Billy Crystal spoofs best actress nominees Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs and Rooney Mara in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo during opening number send up of 2011 movies. Watch the Oscars Sunday on ABC.
