Among the challenges Hugh Jackman starring in the upcoming film adaptation of Les Misérables as ex-con Jean Valjean was singing live, which he describes as a daunting but liberating experience.

Tom Hooper, who last year won an Academy Award for directing The King's Speech, bravely decided to film the cast to perform the challenging score live, rather than acting to prerecorded tracks. Hooper says he's assembled an amazing group of actors, which also includes Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne, who are at home acting through music. "The only way you can make that work is by capturing it in the moment," he says.

"It's going to be different, for sure," offers Hathaway, who will play Fantine in the highly anticipated musical epic based on the Victor Hugo novel about the French rebellion. "Every single person is singing every take live," adds Oscar-winner Crowe, who costars as Javert.
