A Crash Course in LGBT Film 101

Film_finalx400

The staff was shocked to find that our editorial director has not viewed so many staples of the sacred LGBT film canon. Add your top 10 films to our list of must-sees.

We all respect and look up to Advocate.com's editorial director, Lucas Grindley. His take on politics and world news is smart and insightful. But we were appalled to discover his LGBT cultural viewing experience is missing so many important films. In fact, all of them.

Thus a vigorous debate began among the staffers here about which were the 10 most important films to round out Lucas's film education. On the following pages we give you each of our staffer's top 10 lists, in order of importance from 1 to 10 on each. Keep your eye out for repeats. On the last page of this article there is a survey for those of you who think we got it all wrong and want to submit your own list. We encourage you to do so.

A note: These films do not necessarily have to have gay content -- perhaps they are an important part of LGBT culture for their camp value, etc.
