The votes are in! The contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 8, speaking to The Advocate at the Logo reality show’s Los Angeles premiere at the Mayan, have revealed who they want to be the next president of the United States.
It was a close race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, and ultimately ... it was a tie! See their reasons for choosing their respective candidates, a few dark horse candidate proposals (including Batman and Naomi Campbell), and their “senior superlative” introductions for themselves on the following slideshow. And don’t miss the premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern on Logo. See a preview below.
"I think that he's the man for the job. I think he's got the most qualifications and most gold stars out of all of the categories. ... Feel the Bern!”
“Because she’s a woman, and I would love to see a woman in office in the United States.”
“Because of every reason I don’t want the Republicans to be … elected. She stands for everything our country needs right now, and coming from a great president, Obama, I think she’d be a great successor for sure.”
That’s between “me and the election booth.”
“The one that [will] take care of the LGBTQI community, rights, and equality. And not just only our community. I represent the Hispanic community as well too. So taking care [of those groups] inside of our American society so we can maintain democracy all the way.”
“Women need to have the power, and unless a drag queen is gonna run up against her, I think Hillary should win.”
“He’ll save all of us. He’s got it. He’s always got a plan for something. He’s always up to something. He knows.”
“Because I believe he will change this country, and we’ll finally have a president that we’re proud of. I’m proud of Obama, but he kind of got put up against some shit. I think Bernie will follow suit and really give us some change. Because we need it.”
"I plead the fifth on who should be president because no matter what I say, it pisses someone off. You should be asking that question to Lady Bunny. She is brilliant at politics and has lots to say."
For the record, Lady Bunny #FeelsTheBern.
Everyone else but Trump.
“I honestly really have not been following up with anything. I know that Donald Trump’s an asshole, and that’s about as far as I’ve gotten.”
“Because she made you. I believe in her.”
“’Cause I want campaigns that are beautiful to look at.”
“I love — if you ever go to New York City — a mean, old Jewish man that gets shit down… [And] whether he or Hillary wins, we’ll either have our first Jewish president or our first lesbian president. And I think that’s amazing.”
