Arizona man claims he was fired over HIV status

A Scottsdale, Ariz., man has filed a complaint with the Arizona attorney general's office and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claiming that he was fired from his job with the Scottsdale Unified School District because he is HIV-positive, The [Phoenix] Arizona Republic reports. The employee, who wishes to remain anonymous because he fears he won't be able to find a new job if his serostatus becomes widely known, was told on April 10 that his position in the district's technology department was being eliminated on June 30 due to budget cuts. But the man claims he was removed from his position in October and given other duties just days after he informed a school district official that he is infected with HIV. He also says his superiors illegally told other staff members in the school district of his HIV status. An attorney for the school district said the employee's claims are being investigated.
