California
governor signs bill addressing HIV among African-Americans

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed a bill aimed at addressing the disproportionate impact of HIV among African-Americans in the state, particularly in Los Angeles, Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, and the Inland Empire region, according to a press release from the office of the Los Angeles AIDS coordinator. The measure includes the establishment of an independent nonprofit organization by January 1, 2008. The organization will expand and coordinate HIV prevention and services, research, data collection, and funding services for groups working in at-risk African-American communities. (Advocate.com)
