Marjorie Hill will guide GMHC during nationwide search for permanent director.

The board of directors of Gay Men's Health Crisis on Tuesday announced the selection of Marjorie J. Hill, MD, to serve as the agency's interim executive director. Hill will serve in this position while a search is conducted to find a replacement for Ana Oliveira, who served the agency in the role of executive director for six years and is leaving GMHC in late February to pursue other professional interests.

"Dr. Hill is a recognized leader in the HIV/AIDS community and brings a collective wealth of experience and accomplishments to her new role as GMHC's interim executive director," said GMHC board chairman John Colon. "The board is confident that she will further the agency's fiscal and programmatic achievements that have greatly enhanced the lives of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS."

Hill has a long leadership history with GMHC. Most recently she served as the first director of the Women's Institute; she also served as a board member from 1994 to 1999 and as board cochair from 1999 to 2001. Prior to joining the agency, Hill worked in New York City government, first as the LGBT liaison under Mayor David Dinkins and then as assistant commissioner for HIV services at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene under Mayor Michael Bloomberg. At the health department, Hill helped expand needle-exchange programs in the city and coordinated citywide distribution of more than 5 million male and female condoms in 2004. (Advocate.com)
