 The Naked Truth: Amanda Grumman

Amanda Grumman, 24
Newport Beach, Calif.
Likes: breasts
Dislikes: “I’m only half Jewish but got the full Jewish nose”

Growing up, Amanda Grumman always saw herself as “the scrawny kid.” “I was the one trying to gain weight while everyone was trying to lose it,” the 24-year-old says. But spending high school at boarding school changed her perspective. The close quarters both exposed her to a wide variety of body types and “kind of nipped modesty in the bud for me.”

Today, Grumman trains horses, and her body displays the physical nature of her work. “I’m active every day. I’m outside every day,” she says. “Whether I like it or not, my body is toned in a certain way and I’ve really grown to appreciate it.” Some of that appreciation stems from what she calls “a really good relationship” with a previous girlfriend. “She just loved my body and loved all the parts of my body I was the most insecure about,” Grumman says. “That was really powerful.”

While she says her work has given her a more athletic look than she might want, she wouldn’t dream of having plastic surgery. “There are little things I can look on and criticize,” she says. “But I’d rather take what I have and use that to my advantage.”

We need more role models of positive body image like Amanda. Women are beautiful no matter what size or shape they come in and I wish more of our young women understood that. Thanks Amanda for being you- a brave, confident and beautiful person.

I agree...good for you Amanda. You look great and it's so empowering to see women refusing to nitpick and instead, just loving their physicality unconditionally!
