Gay people are often the target of hate crimes and police brutality in the country, which has led many activisits and organizations like the Human Rights Watch to label it one of the most homophobic countries in the world and an unsafe place for activists and LGBT people. Jamaica, an island nation in the Caribbean, is situated about 90 miles south of Cuba. It is an English-speaking country.
