Truvada prevents HIV infection - now what?

The teeny-tiny article about Truvada and it's CDC study in your May 9 issue was much too understated. Surely the prospect of a drug (however experimental it might be) that could potentially prevent HIV infection deserves a little more coverage? This is the ultimate goal of so many of our community and yet this study is already being criticized. Yes it might fail like many before it but at least give it a chance - otherwise what's the point of EVER hoping or trialling new drugs? "..making the world safer for unsafe sex" is an interesting if naive argument. I think we're fighting a losing battle regarding unsafe sex - from my impressions on the scene it's just part of having a fulfilled sex life for many guys. This is incomprehensible to many yet it remains true. So all that Truvada means is that these guys (practicing regular unsafe sex) would be safer. Those of us always safe wouldn't need Truvada in the first place! We have an obligation to try anything that will put an end to HIV/AIDS - don't let your judgments of people get in the way.
