As an Israeli citizen and a transsexual woman from Ethiopia I can verify that Israel is a homophobic society. I suffered racism for being black in Israel long before I had my SRS in Thailand. The vast majority of Jews in Israel are of color. Most originated in the Middle East and Africa. But let me assure you that the white fair-skinned Ashkenazim control Israel. The rabbis who control Israel for along time denied that the Jews of Ethiopia were even true Jews. Our blood cannot be donated to blood banks since they consider us diseased Africans. I have been harassed for being a transwoman dozens of times. Most Israelis may be secular but the far right controls everything. And American reform Jewish rabbis are not even accepted as true Rabbis under the ultra Orthodox rabbinate.
