What a creative
idea for an interview. John August gets the opportunity
to interview "himself" through Ryan Reynolds. Of course the
intro and the actual reason for the trip to Africa are
fluff. The heart of the matter is August "feels a
tremendous responsibility to protect" Reynolds and
does so with a coy and illusive line of questions like
"if you were a gay actor, would you come out?" Of course
Ryan doesn't know if he would. He would like us to
believe that he doesn't "know how to tell" someone is
gay and that he "has the worst gaydar of all time".
Sure, there are some who surprise us, but not very
often. Reynolds also poses quizzes August with "do you think
that whatever actors are in the closet, if they were to come
out, that the system would punish them less?" I'm
sorry, Ryan, this interview does nothing to interfere
with my gaydar and mine is pretty darn accurate. If
this interview is in the least sincere then I can only
suppose that you see John August when you look in the
mirror. Imagine that.
