I so applaud you
for your words. I am white, gay, a senior citizen, and
have been in a committed relationship with a gay black man
for nearly 10 years. I also am an educator working in
a southern California school district which is
committed to eliminating institutional racism by
closing the achievement gap between our black and brown
students and white students . But we really focus on
all discrimination in our schools. Racism is alive and
well in this country and we all have a responsibility
to look within ourselves, have courageous conversations
with others, and take action to change the status quo. I
have taken that step and will not let any opportunity
slip by me to confront racism and discrimination.
Reading what you have chosen to share with us only makes
my determination more resolute. Thank you!
