It's rather sad
that your photo editors think Rachel Maddow, a brilliant,
beautiful butch woman, has to be femmed up with makeup to be
visually acceptable to the readers of your supposedly
all-inclusive LGBT magazine. Did Rachel choose this? I
don't think so. Your article says she hates makeup and
can't clean it off fast enough. So, why didn't you show us
what Rachel looks like out of costume: horn rims, T-shirt,
baggy jeans, and sneakers as she wore on Leno? For TV
news shows makeup is used to better define the
features, I sort of understand this. But, dolling up a
naturally beautiful butch woman for photos in The Advocate
is demeaning. Show us butches in their everyday
clothes. Next time show us Rachel Maddow as herself.
