New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival presents awards
The New Festival: New Yorks 13th Annual Lesbian and Gay Film Festival bestowed its awards Sunday night after a screening of Susan Seidelmans stylish mystery Gaudi Afternoon, according to indieWIRE.com. The grand jury prize went to João Pedro Rodriguess surreal fetish fantasy, O Fantasma, while the documentary award went to Michelle Gucovskys study of an increasingly marginalized segment of Indian society, Bombay Eunuch. The award for short film went to the French entry by Pierre Pinaud, Early Frost, a story about a 10-year-old girl whose family becomes traumatized by the discovery that the family pet rabbit may be gay. The much-lauded documentary Scouts Honor, Tom Shepards exposé of straight Boy Scout Steven Cozzas struggle to have the Boy Scouts of America accept gays as scouts and troop leaders, took the special jury prize for documentary. The audience awards went to Yongyooth Thongkontuns comedy about the all-queer team that bands together to enter Thailands national male volleyball championship, Iron Ladies, for feature, and Q. Allan Brockas animated series, Rick & Steve: The Happiest Couple in All the World, for short film.
