Daughters move back in with lesbian mom

Two teenage girls who threatened to sue their lesbian mother because they claimed her "gay affairs" clashed with their religious beliefs have dropped their case and moved back in with her, according to the New York Post. But despite being reunited with their mother, La Kenna and Shanicola Green of Missouri City, Tex., say things are far from rosy. And they've vowed to defy a court agreement to stop attending the church their mother said was brainwashing them. "We want to go back to our church, and we're going to remain patient in the hope that our mother will give in," said Shanicola, 16. Shanicola and her older sister, La Kenna, 17, were set to sue mom Kimla, 35, for "divorce" because they said she had several gay affairs and brought her girlfriends home. In July they petitioned Harris County district court to emancipate them because their mother had "restricted their religious schooling whenever their religion had questioned their mother's loose sexual lifestyle." Kimla responded by insisting she'd only had three lesbian lovers in eight years--and claimed her daughters had been brainwashed by their pastor, Ronald Mitchell. The girls and their mom wound up in family court two weeks ago, after the teens had asked a judge to declare them independent from her. In a last-minute agreement, Kimla agreed not to "flaunt" her gay lifestyle, and the girls agreed to change their church. But now, after less than a week at home, the girls are still not happy. "It's OK being back at home, because at least it means we get to school on time," Shanicola said. "But things really aren't going too well. If I had a choice, I would go back to church." The girls' lawyer, David Sloan, said the family got back together after a series of counseling sessions. "Everybody agreed to make some changes in the way they approached their living arrangements," he said. "It was an emotional reunion, and they're on their way to resuming normalcy."
