New York's AIDS Service Center opens in Harlem (7899)

New York City's AIDS Service Center, an agency serving poor and uninsured people affected by HIV/AIDS, this week opened its first permanent site in Harlem, agency officials announced Thursday. Called the ASC East Harlem Community Center, the new facility will offer case management services, peer education programs, and other HIV and sexually transmitted disease prevention outreach in the largely African-American community. ASC also operates three sites in lower Manhattan that provide services to more than 1,000 clients and reach more than 7,000 people annually through education and outreach activities. The Harlem center, located at 315 E. 104th St., will operate with a staff of five full-time employees and five volunteers. For more information go online to www.ascnyc.org.
