Siegfried & Roy marquee dismantled

The landmark "Siegfried & Roy" marquee on the Las Vegas Strip was being changed Wednesday, almost six months after a tiger mauled star Roy Horn and forced the show to close. A nearly basketball court-sized image of the duo had remained on the Mirage hotel-casino sign as a gesture of respect, hotel officials said. "Siegfried and Roy have left an indelible mark not only on the Mirage and the Las Vegas community but on the world," said Bobby Baldwin, Mirage Resorts chief executive. Horn, 59, suffered near-fatal neck injuries when a white tiger attacked him during a show October 3. He is rehabilitating and plans with partner Siegfried Fischbacher to promote an animated television show about a family of white lions who perform in their show. A new 70-by-70-foot center panel was being installed in the 200-foot sign to promote impressionist Danny Gans's show and the Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat attraction at the hotel. Siegfried & Roy opened at the Mirage in 1990, drawing 400,000 a people a year and becoming one of the most successful acts in Las Vegas.
