British directors honor Condon for Kinsey

Openly gay Kinsey director Bill Condon has won the award from the Directors Guild of Great Britain for Outstanding Director in the International film category. But the judges couldn't agree on just one winner in the British Film category. Shane Meadows (Dead Man's Shoes) and Pawel Pawlikowski (the teen lesbian romance My Summer of Love) shared the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement on a British Film, presented during a ceremony at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema in London.

Condon beat out some top names in the International category: Martin Scorsese for The Aviator, Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby, and Michel Gondry for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

In the British category, Meadows and Pawlikowski were in competition with Mike Leigh (Vera Drake) and Roger Michell (Enduring Love). Brazilian director Walter Salles secured the evening's Outstanding Directorial Achievement award in the Foreign Language category for The Motorcycle Diaries.
