GLSEN retracts statement on safe-sex booklet offered to teens

The Boston chapter of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network is now admitting that a graphic safe-sex guide aimed at adult men was offered to high school students at its annual conference last month. GLSEN Boston had earlier denied claims by conservative activists that the safe-sex booklet was distributed at the conference, held April 30 at Brookline High School, saying, "The allegations are simply lies." But on Thursday, GLSEN Boston posted a correction on its Web site. GLSEN Boston executive director Sean Haley said that despite the group's "rigorous" efforts to ensure only age-appropriate materials are distributed, one of the groups present, the Peer Listening Line of the Fenway Community Health Center, mistakenly offered the guide. Haley promised that GLSEN Boston will "redouble" its efforts to screen materials at its events. (Advocate/Sirius OutQ News)
