Case dropped
against student who called horse gay

A British court ruled that a former student of Oxford University will not be prosecuted for taunting a police officer about his horse.

A British court ruled Thursday that a former English literature student at Oxford University will not be prosecuted for taunting a police officer's horse as "gay," Agence France-Presse reported. On May 30, 21-year-old Sam Brown was out celebrating the end of final exams when he went up to a mounted officer and said, "Excuse me, do you realize your horse is gay?" Police claim that Brown was drunk and would not stop making comments about the animal's sexuality. He was brought before court for making "homophobic comments" and refusing to pay a $141 fine, the news agency reported. Police officials told the court that the student had created public disorder, but prosecutors were having none of it and did not want to proceed. "In their opinion there is not enough evidence to prove [Brown's behavior] was disorderly," prosecutor Cariad Eveson-Webb said. (Advocate.com)
