Scotland to teach
gay sex ed in schools

Scottish schools will be adding gay sex education to their health curricula. Scotland on Sunday newspaper reports that the nation's current sex ed guidelines will be expanded because they are "heterosexist." Lessons will reportedly include safe sex, where to get peer counseling, and gay relationships. The move is the first major overhaul of sex education in Scotland since repeal of a Thatcher-era law that banned any discussion of homosexuality in schools throughout the United Kingdom. The paper reports that the government worked out the curriculum with the help of LGBT health and civil rights groups. Teachers will then be instructed on how to teach the subject. The paper said that the government hopes to have the program in place for the start of the next school year, which begins in August. (Sirius OutQ News)
