New organization
launched to combat "ex-gay" movement

As President Bush and the U.S. Senate prepare to debate same-sex marriage this week, a new organization will launch to combat so-called ex-gay ministries and organizations. Founded by former Sirius OutQ radio host and activist Wayne Besen, Truth Wins Out will confront what Besen calls the "dangerous lie that has buttressed antigay campaigns from coast to coast...that sexual orientation is something that can be directed or 'cured.' " Besen added that his organization "will strike this pillar out from under antigay efforts." Truth Wins Out will launch at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday with dramatic personal stories of victims of "ex-gay" programs, and insights into how ex-gay theories are woven into nearly all efforts opposed to equality for gay and lesbian Americans.
