Aruba must
recognize the Netherlands' gay married couples

The Netherlands' supreme court ruled that same-sex unions conducted in the country must also be recognized by Aruba's government. According to Agence France-Presse, two Dutch women requested to be recognized as a married couple in Aruba's civil register. Their petition was denied, prompting them to take their case to court, where they won the case as well as an appeal made by Aruba's government.

The supreme court found that laws drawn up by a civil servant in the Netherlands, Aruba, or the Netherlands Antilles is valid through the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of which Aruba is a part. (The Advocate)
