One man involved in the 1991 murder of a Texas gay man may be released early from prison, unless the slain man's mother can intervene. The Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday that Nancy Rodriguez met with parole officials requesting that Jon Buice remain in prison. This is her third visit over a decade and a half to the parole board to keep Buice behind bars for the killing of Paul Broussard.

"It's not been easy," she said to the Chronicle. "But I won't stop."

Broussard was 27 when he was murdered outside a nightclub in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston.

Buice is one of 10 men convicted of the beating and stabbing. He has served 15 years of a 45-year sentence.

The parole board will announce its decision within the next 15 days. (The Advocate)
