Gay Mayoral
Candidate Arrested in Palm Springs

Gay Vallejo, Calif., councilman Gary Cloutier, who is running for mayor, was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Palm Springs, according to Vallejo's Times-Herald.

The votes are still being counted in Vallejo, Calif.'s mayoral race -- and now the race has encountered another twist. Gay councilman Gary Cloutier, who made it into the mayoral runoff, was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Palm Springs, according to the Vallejo Times-Herald.

Palm Springs police responded to call about an intoxicated man attempting to drive his car at approximately 3:45 a.m. Sunday. Cloutier, 45, was arrested after police found him in the driver's seat of a Cadillac.

The police report claims that Cloutier could barely walk after leaving Hunters nightclub. He was booked and held at the Palm Springs jail. He was released on a promise to appear at a later time, according to the article.

Cloutier tied with former county supervisor Osby Davis in Vallejo's November 6 election. Officials have been counting absentee and provisional ballots to determine a winner. As of Friday, the councilman was ahead by a mere 52 votes. There were 400 ballots yet to be counted at that point. (The Advocate)
