The American
Constitution Society is having its national convention
Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel in Washington, D.C.
On Friday the
convention will feature a panel discussion titled
"Lawrence v. Texas Five Years Out: Can the
Promises of Liberty and Equality Be Fulfilled?"
Panelists include Dale Carpenter, professor of law,
University of Minnesota Law School; Joseph R. Guerra,
Sidley Austin LLP; Nan Hunter, professor of law, Brooklyn
Law School; H. Alexander Robinson, CEO, National Black
Justice Coalition; and Paul M. Smith, Jenner
Block LLP.
On Saturday there
will be a panel discussion titled "Progressive Family
Values: Making Work Work for Families." The
discussion will feature Stuart Ishimaru, commissioner,
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; Marc
Freedman, director of labor law policy, U.S. Chamber of
Commerce; Karen Kornbluh, policy director for Sen. Barack
Obama; Ann O'Leary, executive director, Center
on Family and the Workplace, Boalt Law School,
University of California, Berkeley; Judith Lichtman, senior
adviser, National Partnership for Women and Families; and
Reva Siegel, deputy dean and professor of law, Yale
Law School.
Also on Saturday
will be the panel "Rights in Conflict: Sexual
Orientation, Gender Identity, and Religious Liberty."
Panelists include Chief Justice Alex Kozinski,
U.S. court of appeals for the ninth circuit; Judge
Stephen Reinhardt, U.S. court of appeals for the ninth
circuit; Preeta Bansal, Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher
Flom LLP; Gene Nichol, professor of law,
University of North Carolina School of Law; and Lara
Schwartz, legal director chief legislative counsel,
Human Rights Campaign.
