Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa officiated his first same-sex marriage Monday at City Hall.
According to the mayor's office, the ceremony joined movie producer Bruce Cohen and art consultant Gabriel Catone, who have been a couple for five years. Cohen, a friend of Villaraigosa, asked the mayor to perform the afternoon ceremony.
Villaraigosa had promised to conduct as many same-sex weddings as he could, but when the ruling legalizing such unions took effect on June 16, he was on city business in Israel. (The Advocate)
