PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is known for raising eyebrows with its largely nude "no fur" ad campaigns, but the group's methods have backfired in a new ad campaign.
A new anti-fur, anti-leather commercial starring longtime PETA supporter Pamela Anderson and featuring Andy Dick, out comic Carol Leifer, Steve-O, and punk icon Nina Hagen has been deemed too racy to run in airports in the New York area.
The ads were to be serviced by CNN to all three major New York airports starting this month and then roll out to 45 other airports across the country. CNN sent a letter to PETA, saying the network had to be "particularly sensitive because children make up part of the demographic in airports."
According to the New York Post, the ads may now run as part of in-flight entertainment.
