Members of the Guilford College community in Greensboro, N.C., gathered on Wednesday in response to the death threats received by a gay student last week.
The student, who has not been identified, received two separate letters last Monday and Thursday that threatened him, citing his sexual orientation. Thursday's letter, delivered on a brick thrown through the student’s window, said, “death is almost too good for you.”
School officials are still seeking the person or group who made the threats. The targeted student is coping well under the circumstances, according to friends.
Several hundred people rallied against the incidents on Wednesday, according to the local Fox affiliate, and pledged to appeal to state legislators to pass hate-crimes legislation.
