One Kalamazoo, the principal group urging voters to support the city’s LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance on the November ballot, debuted its first ad.
The 30-second spot focuses on the theme of “equality for all families.”
The ordinance would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, and public accommodations. It passed the Kalamazoo City Commission unanimously in June, but opponents gathered enough valid signatures to put the ordinance before voters next month.
A similar ordinance was approved last December, but city commissioners exercised an option to rescind it after opponents collected enough signatures to put it to a public vote.
