With little over one week remaining before the vote on Question 1 in Maine, supporters of the marriage equality law report collecting more in contributions than opponents, including a broader base of donors.
The amounts were reported to state officials by the campaigns on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
“No on 1/Protect Maine Equality said in its campaign finance report to the state that it has raised $4 million in its campaign to keep Maine's same-sex marriage law on the books,” reported the Associated Press. “That compares to the $2.5 million raised by Stand for Marriage Maine, which forced the people's veto vote through a petition drive.”
What’s more, marriage equality supporters indicated receiving a large number of donations in the $50 to $1,000 range, according to the Associated Press, compared to opponents, who received the bulk of their donations from the National Organization for Marriage ($1.1 million) and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland ($152,600).
