Sen. John McCain refused to say Monday whether he thought the account of his 2008 presidential campaign as told by his former running mate Sarah Palin in her new book is accurate.
McCain, a Republican from Arizona, said that he was “moving on” when approached by Politico.com in the Capitol.
“Look, I’m just moving on,” said McCain, who already read the book, scheduled for release this week. “I’m just moving on, and I’ve got too many other things to worry about except to say that I’m proud of my campaign.”
Former advisers to McCain, including campaign manager Steve Schmidt, have challenged the accuracy of the account in the Palin book, called Going Rogue. Schmidt called the book “all fiction” last week.
In the book Palin attacks Schmidt as demeaning toward her, and she alleges that other McCain aides mishandled her media appearances. She also faults the Republican National Committee for spending $150,000 on a wardrobe for the Palin family.
