The Reverend Canon Mary D. Glasspool, the lesbian Episcopal priest chosen to become a bishop in the Los Angeles diocese, says that she expected a reaction of some kind from Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury.
Following Glasspool’s election to become the first openly lesbian bishop in the Anglican Communion on Saturday, Williams issued a stern warning to Episcopal leaders in the United States who will weigh her appointment in the upcoming months.
TheBaltimore Sun asked Glasspool about the reaction from Williams in an interview, the full transcript of which can be found here.
”With respect to the Archbishop of Canterbury, he has a personal relationship with the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, and I leave that in their realm,” said Glasspool. “Certainly, I’m not ignorant of issues in the culture and the church, so yes, I can say I anticipated some kind of reaction. You never know what kind of reaction.”
