Despite reports that Tony Kushner’s play The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures was heading to Broadway, the director of Minneapolis’s Guthrie Theater, where the play premiered last spring, says that isn’t the case.
Guthrie director Joe Dowling said earlier that the play would head to Broadway in spring 2010. But now he’s told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that New York producers “made a decision to suspend it so that Tony wouldn’t face another deadline like he had in Minneapolis,” where the premiere was delayed to accommodate changes Kushner made at the last minute.
The New York Times reports that Kushner will serve as writer in residence at New York City’s Signature Theater Company, which is reviving his Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America as part of its 2010 season.
