A week before a federal suit against California’s Proposition 8 is
scheduled to be heard, the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which
is funding the legal challenge, has expanded its website to include
legal filings, hearing transcripts, and news updates.
The trial is expected to begin Monday in the San Francisco federal courtroom of Judge Vaughn Walker, who has scheduled a Wednesday hearing on whether TV cameras will be allowed in the courtroom. Prop. 8 backers are against broadcasting the trial, while the legal team challenging the ballot measure has voiced its support for cameras.
The foundation’s website, EqualRightsFoundation.org, also includes links to donate to the effort as well as Facebook and Twitter pages to follow the trial.
Ted Olson and David Boies, the attorneys who represent two California couples who were denied marriage licenses by the state in May, contend that Prop. 8 violates the equal protection and due process clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
