Stephen Baldwin became a born-again Christian after 9/11, and in a new interview with The Guardian, the actor says his faith doesn’t allow him to support same-sex marriage and that he has respect for anyone who can reject the gay lifestyle.
"To turn away from that lifestyle is astonishing,” Baldwin tells The Guardian.
The reporter asks Baldwin what he would do if one of his daughters came out as a lesbian and the other went to work as a stripper.
"Jesus or no Jesus, if my kid started working in a strip club, I'd beat her ass," he says. "Now, the other question is interesting and culturally relevant. I have two or three very dear friends who are homosexual and they know I'm born again and we have an understanding that we're just not going there ... "
When talk turns to same-sex marriage and civil unions, Baldwin responds:
"I believe that the family unit has fundamentally been the most positive thing for society and I don't believe that any minority has the right to create changes that impact on the majority. That's really the only issue for me."
Baldwin’s brothers Alec and William are both outspoken supporters of gay rights. Stephen Baldwin’s breakout role was in the film Threesome, in which he and actor Josh Charles share an intimate moment.
