When Marc Cherry hired Dexter’s Julie Benz for a recurring role as a stripper on his ABC hit Desperate Housewives, the actress just assumed she’d be breaking up someone’s marriage.
But in a twist, in an upcoming episode Benz’s Robin and Dana Delany’s crazed Katherine share a lip lock to throw off some men they’re trying to ditch — but the kiss turns into something more.
“I guessed it,” Delany tells TV Guide. “I asked, ‘Am I becoming a man?’ And [creator] Marc Cherry said, ‘Close.’”
Delany compares Katherine’s realization to Meredith Baxter’s recent announcement that she’s gay.
“For a woman in her fifties to make this announcement to her community is huge,” Delany says. “I hope it sticks.”
Benz appears on the show starting in February and is scheduled to appear in at least four episodes. But the actress says she’s hoping to stick around and is bribing producers with cupcakes.
